No. I don't think they intentionally kill women and children, but I'm not a soldier, so I guess I don't really know what happens. In general, however, I think war is terrible and innocent people die, and unfortunately, sometimes people die because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or talking to the wrong people. It's really sad, but it's war.
I know that, in the past, US soldiers have done horrible things to women and children in isolated incidents. (Such as the My Lai massacre in Vietnam.) However, I don't think such incidents are common in the experience of most soldiers, or that this is acceptable to the military.
I haven't heard of any such incidents in Iraq so far. I've heard, of course, of Abu Ghraib, and other incidents of soldiers attacking innocent civilian men. I've also heard of soldiers accidentally killing women. Even if these incidents are not as bad as My Lai, any time someone is maimed or killed, they are bad enough to cause terrible pain. I have never lived through a war, so I cannot understand these people's pain.
I suspect if there were a real war on American soil again, Americans would not be so quick to attempt a military solution to these problems...
